How to use fern in your wedding?

Greenery is the important part of this wedding theme and you can spot it everywhere. The details, the table, bouquet and invitation. We always say that if you want a big impact but don’t want to buy disposable stuff then your best bet is plants and candles.

Ferns are coming back big time after long rein of silvery eucalyptus in wedding bouquets and decoration. They are wonderful choice for greenery as they grow locally in almost every climate and can be found in several interesting shapes and sizes. In folklore finding a blooming fern is considered lucky, the joke is that ferns don’t bloom nor they produce seeds in real life.

For woodland weddings ferns are absolutely perfect, but they look equally stunning in minimalist or classic wedding styles. Use ferns en masse to create lush green forms or as singular statement leaves to really bring out their interesting shape.

Fern Wedding Inspiration – where to focus

The obvious place to use ferns is that bridal bouquet and table setting and in this styling you can see them with and without other flowers – both looking great! You could also try mixing different kinds of ferns.

The wedding cake can also be decorated with ferns, and why not using the plant in the stationary you need at the venue? For invitations we recommend going with illustration because the plant doesn’t keep well in an envelope.

The bridal couple can easily incorporate fern in their looks. For a simple bridal style add a fern like hair accessory. The groom can wear the theme foliage as a boutonniere.

This is only one example of ferns in wedding decor, so don’t be afraid to use your imagination!

What To Wear Under White Clothes – Including The Wedding Dress

What To Wear Under White Clothes – Including The Wedding Dress

Best choice is to wear nude lingerie under white clothes, as they blend in with your skin. White is a wonderful color whether you wear it everyday or at a special occasion like a wedding. In this blog post we go over the best type of underwear to use underneath white clothes including wedding dresses. Here is my 5 best tips when choosing what to wear under white clothes or a wedding gown.

Underwear And White Clothes

White clothes are one of my favorites, hands down. There’s something dramatic and airy in the all white ensemble and when it comes to wedding dresses white is the most popular choice.

What I don’t enjoy when it comes to white clothes is how see through they often are. White is a tricky color in fabrics as the same fabric type can be super see through in white and there might be absolutely no problem in other colors. I have worked with many white dresses and I still get surprised about how many layers are needed to make a dress that covers everything underneath.

Here I wanted to share my top 5 tips for what to wear under white clothes and especially wedding dresses. Some of the tips are tailored also for light and airy fabrics or specific dress types like open back – but read through the blogpost and get the information. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask them in the comments. I’m glad to answer them!

Here is my 5 tips for what to wear under white clothes!

1. Nude Or Blush Colored Underwear

First instinct is to wear white underneath white, but that’s actually no-no. That’s because if there’s even an ounce of sheerness in the uppermost fabric the white undies will show really clearly as it makes that part of the body more white than the others.

That’s why you should aim to your natural flesh tones when picking your underwear for underneath white clothes. For light skinned even blush and pink works better than bright white or you can try champagne and gold colored also. For darker skin tones along with champagne and gold you can try red ones, wine red, deep violet or even pure black if there’s no good nude colors available.

If your dress has several layers and it’s absolutely no see through even in bright daylight, you can basically pick any color you love. Why not even pick blue ones as your ‘something blue’.

2. Light Shapewear

My to go phrase for my customers when it comes to clothing is “a dress is not a shapewear”.

What I mean is, that there’s proper shapewear which are designed to slim down your curves and they work thousand times better and make anything on top of them look awesome.

Flesh colored shapewear makes sure there’s no seams or unneeded stress on the uppermost clothes. Most of the shapewear nowadays is surprisingly comfortable and made from soft and smooth materials.

If you want to have some serious shaping go for metal boned corset, corselette or waist trainer. The wedding dress or other gown isn’t made for reshaping you and most of the bones in them are meant to keep the dress itself in it’s shape, not to reshape you.

If you want only slight smoothing, even high waisted panties or tights can do the trick. Again, pick flesh toned ones.

3. Microfibres

These lovely, smooth, stretchy silk like microfibre fabrics are often made from polyamide or polyester. They are widely used in underwears for their softness and possibility to knit them into seamless panties and bras.

Underwear made from microfibres are usually very unnoticeable and they don’t tend to catch with other clothes because of their smoothness and slippery surface. That’s why they are perfect to use underneath light and sheer fabrics.

So when picking your knickers and bras go with those smooth microfibre fabrics instead of lacy confections.

4. Silicone Bra In Flesh Color

Trendy open backs and deep necklines are beautiful looking, but they certainly are tricky when it comes to holding your boobs in place. One of the best options is to use a backless silicone bra that sticks into your skin. Many of them come in flesh colors so they are great option if you have sheer panels or light white fabric.

There’s several different types and models, but I would advice to get one which is as wide as possible to give you the best support. The older types tended to slip off when you got sweaty, but there’s interesting newer ones that actually stick even tighter when skin gets damp.

So make some detective work to find the best one for you and make sure your skin is clean by wiping it with hand sanitizer before wearing them.  The bra in the picture is by Coconut Grove.

5. White Or Nude Slip

Slip is really unused piece of clothing in modern days in my mind. It adds one light weight and smooth layer and you can use it with any dress or skirt you need. Many white clothes need three-four layers to be really not-see-through and in cases where there isn’t enough layers the slip acts like one.

Slip works best with clothes that are made off sheer fabrics, slightly loose and not boned – like summer dresses, bias cut clothes and dresses without lining. Ideally you wear a slip with bra and panties. Sometimes you can get just underskirt instead of whole slip.

Nude colored slips are again the most handy type, but you can also go for white one if you are not bothered by the possibility of seeing the figure of the slip. With very sheer fabrics not seeing the layer underneath might be impossible. In that case the nude colored slip might look like you really don’t have anything underneath. Picking a white slip is a good way to avoid that and look more modest. Go what you feel is best for you.

Underwear is the most important part of any outfit!

The importance of good underwear is not understood as well as I would like to. The better you want to look the more crucial good underwear is. That’s why you should always use time and money for it. Even expensive and stylish clothes look bad with ill fitting underwear or wrong kind of undies.

Thinking about your underwear is important especially with a wedding dress. It’s good to think about your figure and the support or slimming it might need when choosing your wedding dress and figuring out what kind of underwear you need.

Other Things To Consider With Underwear:

Can you go without bras? Nipple covers are handy when there’s only modesty to think about.

Frills are lovely, but maybe save the lace to the wedding night. This way you can freshen up a bit after a long day.

Does your dress need a petticoat? Make sure you get the right shaped one to support the figure of your dress.

If you are worried of chafing thighs wear a pantyhose, long legged panties or use plenty of talc powder.

If you’re busty and need plenty of support, get a good body or corset. You can even find ones that work with open back or strapless dresses. Not both at the same time though most likely.

White Infinity Dress – A Wedding Wardrobe Stable

White infinity dress is a perfect piece for any bride’s wedding wardrobe. This soft and slightly shiny convertible twist and wrap dress is a great choice whether you use it as a rehearsal dinner dress, reception dress or as an actual wedding dress.

Infinity dress turns into several beautiful styles and you can style it differently during the wedding day. After the wedding pack it with you to the honeymoon and you’ll have an elegant gown to all those romantic dinner dates.

We offer infinity dresses in 23 colors, but the absolute favorites for brides have been cream, silk white and snow white. In the blogpost  pictures you see our snow white infinity dress in maxi length styled in several different ways.

The hair accessories in the pictures are Anya Turban Headband and Midsummer Rose Pins. Both are available at Heili Bridal’s shop. Pictures by talented Sirpa from Piirto Photography, operating from Savonlinna Finland.

1. One Shoulder White Infinity Dress For Trendy Bride

This one shoulder style is like straight from Acropolis temple. It’s at the same time very classic and also modern with its simplicity. This is a sturdy and easy to tie style that typically doesn’t need pins or fashion tape to stay put. You can even cover bra band by rolling the straps lover on the back or using a tube top underneath.

2. Romantic Era Of Jane Austen

This is hands down one of my favorite looks from our photoshoot – cap sleeves and empire waist give the air of Austen heroines with their regency fashions. This is again easy style to tie and easy to accessorize. Try adding pearl or rhinestone brooches to the straps for some bling.

3. Tie The Knot With White Infinity Dress

Knots are wonderful way to create different styles. Here is two versions of grecian style knotted straps. The first is a beautiful two straps plus sweetheart style. If the sweetheart tie feels like slipping, just use two small safety pins to attach the straps. The second style has lovely little cap sleeves made with the help of knots and a statement back!

4. From Full Coverage To Strapless

Here the white infinity dress really shines as a wedding gown – you can choose your own coverage. You need to get your shoulders covered for church? No problem! Want to shine on the dance floor with strapless dress, just change the style. TIP: for strapless styles, get a good bustier or long strapless bra that stays put and tuck the infinity dress straps in between the bra and skin.

5. Princess Gown With White Infinity Dress Overlay

This extra tulle hem transforms simple white infinity dress into a dreamy princess wedding gown. Customise your basic infinity dress with the overlay of your own choice. Later during the reception you can lose the extra hem and change into sleek and sexy style for the evening. Whether you’re looking for tulle, lace, chiffon or anything else, we search the fabric according your wishes and deliver the ready made overlay with your infinity dress.

Vow Renewal – Money Pit Or Celebration Worth Having?

Vow Renewal – Money Pit Or Celebration Worth Having?

Vow renewal trend – is it just a capitalist idea to make us spend thousands of more money for wedding vol.2? Or could there be – after all – a meaning and sweet sentiment in celebrating your marriage and the most intimate relationship with another person again after already promising yourself to each other. In this blogpost I delve into why vow renewal is a thing and why I’m seriously considering it.

Plan your whole wedding outfit with this beautiful easy to use planner!

What Is A Vow Renewal?

Vow renewal is a celebration of marriage. According to wikipedia vow renewals have been popular in Italy and became more well known elsewhere after 1970’s.

At vow renewal a married couple reaffirms or renews their marriage vows, often followed by a party or  reception with their closest family and friends.

Why Vow Renewal Feels Tacky For Me?

When I first stumbled into an idea of vow renewal I felt it was a cheap (ha!) imitation of a proper wedding with all the same elements, but done again just because. Vow renewals feel somehow a very capitalistic concept: a way to sell even more wedding stuff to people who are already married.

Now I realize that it is quite a harsh way of thinking about it but I’m still unable to lose the idea that businesses just want us to spend even more money. Do we need to make a number about celebrating a marriage already tied?

What Made Me Re-Think A Vow Renewal

The main reason why I started to really consider having a vow renewal was when my husband started his transition. We had our wedding party few years before the same-sex marriage law went through. On our wedding day pictures there’s two white dresses and big smiles.

Four years after we finally learned why my spouse had never felt at home in their body and we as a couple and he as a person started the transition to a man and wife. When I realized that he could never look at our wedding pictures and be comfortable what he saw I started to think about redoing our wedding portraits.

If we redid our wedding portraits, why not have a party when dressed for the occasion, I started to wonder. Maybe there would be something in the vow renewal after all…

Celebrating Life And Love

My husband’s grandma said once that all the excuses to celebrate are good ones. She’s a wise woman I think and has inspired us to bake a cake for any small celebrations life has offered. I realize I have been having so many prejudices towards vow renewals instead of embracing the possibility to get our friends and family into one place with good food and merry atmosphere.

Not two wedding are the same and it’s logical that the vow renewals aren’t the same either. People have so many different reasons to celebrate their unique path as a couple and can do it in different ways. It’s just the matter to find the right way for us.

Great Reasons For A Vow Renewal

1. Big anniversaries

We have been talking about having our vow renewal at our 10th anniversary year. When so many things in life are unstable having one person beside you a decade or even more is a reason for celebration.

2. Overcoming an obstacle

Major life events that you go through together are a good time to stop for a moment, tell how much it means that you’re doing all of it as a couple and be thankful of your married partner.

3. Having the wedding reception you missed before

Maybe you eloped, maybe you were short of money – vow renewal is a great opportunity to celebrate your marriage together with your loved ones. Now that you’re older and more established you can throw the party you always wanted but couldn’t before. Have fun with it!

4. Reconnecting after a rough patch

Marriages are not always easy and it’s normal to have some rocky times. When you’ve reconnected and came through even better than before you have a great opportunity to renew your vows and mean them even more. You can also write your vows anew to better reflect who you are now.

Vow Renewal Ideas

Here is some ideas I have gathered throughout my search to find something suitable for us and some thoughts about what vow renewal can look and be like. Similar to weddings, every vow renewal should look like the couple and there’s no right or wrong way to do it.

1. Vow renewal is a change to do things differently

Earlier I talked about having a party if you’ve eloped, but it also works another way around. If you had a big wedding vow renewal could be your opportunity to make things super intimate just for you two. How about traveling somewhere you have always wanted and have your vow renewal there? Vow renewal isn’t second take on your wedding and it doesn’t have to be a copy of your day before. It’s a new occasion, new celebration of your relationship and I think it’s great to approach it like that.

2. Keep it intimate

Vow renewal is above all for you as a couple so it’s logical to take a intimate approach to it. Get your dearest people around you and forget extra pomp.

3. You don’t have to follow a typical wedding order

The idea of having a ‘ceremony’ is one of the main things that has been bothering me personally about vow renewals. When I realised that we don’t have to walk down the aisle or stand before quests like at our wedding I felt so relieved. I think we will skip that and instead have a moment at dinner table in front of our guests. Use your own intuition to find what works best for you two.

4. Invite people who couldn’t make in the first time

Maybe you have made dear friends after your wedding that you would have loved to have there. Maybe some people just couldn’t make it before. Or have just the ones you really like and love instead of all the distant relatives or work buddies you might have invited for your wedding all those years before.

My Tips For Vow Renewal Etiquette

As I said before, every vow renewal is different and you should do it as you wish. Yet, I wanted to give few tips that I have encountered about vow renewal etiquette and practical aspects of vow renewal celebrations.

1. Don’t ask for presents

Vow renewal is not a wedding and that’s why wedding registry doesn’t apply here. You’re most likely not two young people putting up your first home together so asking for gifts is bad taste. People might still want to give you something, but don’t go asking for things.

2. Wearing a new wedding dress is a bad idea

Again, vow renewal is not a wedding so picking a traditional wedding dress is odd. On the other hand you can absolutely wear white if you want and you can pick something gorgeous and beautiful.

Some people wear their original wedding dress and accessorize it differently to give it a new and more relaxed feel. Go with your gut with this one and consider what kind of event you’re planning.

3. Skip the bridesmaids, groomsmen and other bridal party

It’s a great idea to invite your original bridal party to your vow renewal, but having them perform the task again would be weird in my opinion. Firstly: you’ve been married for years and living together so there’s no need to give anyone away and secondly: you don’t need anybody stand as a moral support for an event you have already had.

4. Parents aren’t typically hosting vow renewals

But sometimes kids or friends want to host an event for a married couple. That’s actually super sweet in my mind. Yet there is no need to name the hosts in invitations. While parents are traditionally congratulated during the reception there’s no need for other hosts to be congratulated like that at vow renewals. Let’s save it for the couple.

5. Do include your kids if you have any

If you have had kids after your wedding a vow renewal can be big deal for them. Some children feel at certain age jealousy for not having been able to attend their parent’s wedding (for obvious reasons). A vow renewal is a chance for them to be part of your special day and it’s also a great opportunity to share stories about how their parents met and how their family came to be.

This has been wonderful opportunity for me to rethink vow renewal with you guys! If you liked the article do pin it and share it forward. I would also love to hear your tips about renewing wedding vows and celebrating marriage after being together several years. Any tips for me?

Royal Wedding Inspiration – 6 Trends To Steal From Royal Weddings

Royal wedding inspiration is ageless and elegant – perfect for brides searching for classy wedding ideas. Royal weddings are huge trendsetters in every decade. Scale and formality is something that sets them apart from other weddings but even if you’re not having a 600+ guest royal event you can pick the best and most beautiful aspects of royals weddings to use in your own.

Royal Wedding Inspiration

I love royal weddings! The biggest ones are broadcast all over the world and the smaller ones covered in local magazines and web pages. No matter the scale they are always beautiful, magical events with stylish details and classic beauty.

In this blogpost I go over six different trends from european royal weddings that can be easily recreated in your wedding. Many of these tips have something to do with wedding dress and bride’s outfit that I talk in more detail, but I have listed even more ideas in the end of this blogpost.

These trends, ideas and inspiration are perfect if you want to have traditionally beautiful, classy and elegant and bit old fashioned romantic wedding. So keep reading and have a fabulous time planning your own wedding. Don’t forget to download our FREE wedding theme planner to help you up.

Here is my 6 royal wedding trends for you to use!

1. Small Wedding Bouquets

I don’t know if small bouquets are something royal brides choose for practicality, but I certainly love the tiny bouquets. This trend has certainly been growing in 2010’s after big bouquets of 90′ and 00’s.

Whether you check Kate’s or Meghan’s bouquet or Princess Alina of Romania, you see each of those is a smallish arrangement. Even Pippa Middleton sported a beautiful small bouquet a’la royal style.

More and more brides opt for locally grown flowers which is great! If royal brides carry flowers like sweet williams, forget-me-knots and garden roses it’s all the more reason for us as well give up blooms flown in from elsewhere of the world.

2. Traditional Flower Girls and Page Boys

Flower girls and page boys with their white dresses and breeches are something that screams a society wedding for me. Having small children walk before the wedding couple is a symbol of growing up, fertility and losing of youthful innocence and stepping into the world of adults.

Nowadays the symbolism is not that meaningful perhaps, as many couples are closer their 30’s. Still the traditional look of white taffeta dresses, white stockings, peter pan or sailor collars and wide sashes is still very ageless and sweet. Totally one of my favorite royal wedding inspiration element to use.

3. Bateau Necklines

The most famous of them right now is probably Meghan Markle’s wedding gowns. But bateau necklines has been seen in royal weddings before Meghan. For example Princess Victoria of Sweden wore a bateau neckline as well as her sister Princess Madeleine. It was also seen on Mary Donaldson when she married Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.

I believe the biggest draw to the bateau neckline is how it leaves the decoltée open and shows a bit of skin in a tasteful way even with long sleeved styles that are often seen in royal weddings.

4. Tiaras

This is very obvious royal wedding inspiration, because what is more royal than tiaras? Tiaras are making a true comeback along with veils to the wedding fashion after being ‘out’ for many years. In recent years tiaras have been often seen worn quite far back from the forehead so the tiara is more in an upwards position.

The hairdo accompanying it is often a low bun, although Kate wore her hair open back in 2011. The bun can be messy, sleek, oversize… Plenty of variations from a very simple, yet elegant style! The best thing is, that you don’t have to pick a huge tiara for yourself as many tiaras can be quite low.

5. White Bridesmaid Dresses

All white bridal party is often something that common brides shy away from. White bridesmaid dresses, flower girls and page boys has been quite a typical view at royal weddings in the recent years and before. In all white they make a sweet entourage for the princess bride of the day.

The dress style for bridesmaids and the maid of honor is typically sleeker and more minimalistic. One of the big trend setter for modern all white bridesmaid style was definitely Pippa Middleton at her sister’s wedding 2011. That was some serious royal wedding inspiration!

6. Long Veil And Train

Princess Eugenie’s lack of veil was noted as a nod to her work to spread information about scoliosis. Otherwise most royal brides have been wearing a veil and their dresses often have a train. Long veils and trains have typically been seen as a part of royal wedding dress code and they work well in big, formal chapels the royal weddings typically take place.

Statement veils have been listed as one of 2019 wedding trends and I’m super happy to seen them in fashion again! Veils are something you will wear only at your wedding, so take that chance. A good rule of thumb when deciding your train and veil lenght is that the larger and more formal the ceremony site, the longer the train and veil.

If you’re worried about how to move in a dress with a train, talk with your seamstress about bustling the train up or making a detachable train. You can see one in the down left on Princess Victoria’s wedding gown.

And There’s Plenty of More Royal Wedding Inspiration!

High society weddings are often beautiful mix of traditional and new wedding elements. Typically they are big and formal events but even if you’re having a small, intimate wedding there’s plenty of things you can pick from royal weddings.

I listed some other wonderful elements for you to use at your own wedding. Mix and match things you love and don’t hesitate to use them at your ceremony or reception. Here is some more royal wedding inspiration!

Other Elements To Use From Royal Weddings:

Flower arches at church door

White letterpress stationary

Monogram

Speeches

Blusher veil

Long sleeved wedding dress

Horse-drawn carriage

Vintage car

Dress code: hats

Multi layer wedding cake with white frosting

5 Garden Wedding Tips For Brides

Garden weddings are super trendy! Flowers, trees, fresh air and warm atmosphere are a perfect setting for a romantic occasion. Still, there are some things you should remember when choosing your wedding dress – happily we are sharing them right here, keep reading!

#1 Bugs love tulle

I kid you not! When there’s a big, soft tulle hem there most likely will be all kinds of flying and crawling friends in between the layers too. Sirpa from Piirto Photography shared a memory of one bride who got actual ants climbing up her skirt. Yaiks! So think twice about the tulle froufrou – maybe choose something with less layers or keep it short. Here is some inspiration:

#2 Slims heels get stuck in the grass

Soft lawn and sky high stilettos are not the most graceful combination. The sharp heels will sink into the grass like hot knife into butter and you’ll be stumbling down. Pick shoes with sturdier heels or even opt in fot beautiful flats. If you’re determined to wear slim heels, get a pair of clear plastic stoppers like those from Solemates or Gogoheel that effectively keep you from sinking. I can vouch for them, I used a pair at my own wedding.

#3 Wind can be a nuisance

This is particularly true if your wedding happens close to a shore of any kind. It’s always windy by the water. If you’re wearing a veil, it can get tricky very fast when the wind is blowing. Get yourself some magnetic veil weights that keep the veil from flying everywhere. Or skip the long veil and choose something smaller like the bandeau style birdcage veil below here.

#4 Long trains will get dirty

We can always hope for good weather, but the truth is that occasional rains happen. Soggy ground will get muddy underneath the guests feet very quickly and that doesn’t do good for your white hems. Long trains will get dusty and dirty even without rain – gravel and grass are enough. So think over whether you should pick a dress without a train or consult your seamstress on how to bustle the train up for the reception. We also love Trainloop to neatly bustle up the train.

 #5 It can get HOT

When midsummer sun is baking down on your marquee and lawn you might question your decision to skip the air conditioned ballroom. A wedding dress with plenty of layers acts like a down jacket by trapping air inside and insulating you from that blessed gasp of cooler wind. In other words – you’ll sweat like a sinner in church if you’re wearing a wedding dress with a big hem. You can fight the sweats by dusting yourself with baby powder before getting dressed, and staying in shade. Or you can pick something slim and super comfortable. I can recommend an infinity dress which works beautifully as a bridal look especially when combined with statement accessories or a lace hem.
