Green and gold is a perfect theme for late summer days. The nature is lush and blooming and the rays of golden sun colors everything in warm tones. It’s simply beautiful as is! When you think of it you don’t have to add that much. Keep the overall style simple and just polish it a little bit.

We suggest a one tier cake in warm tones celebrating the summer blooms. As the flowers on it are quite decorative try to keep the tables really simple with adding just the essentials: gold colored cutlery matches the candle bras on a flowy silk runner; some green and a minimalist tableware keep the style sophisticated and inviting. The style continues to the wedding stationary; sturdy paper celebrates beautiful typography and watercolor illustration.

The bridal look is elegant and warm. White, gold and burnt ochre combine beautifully on the bouquet. If you decide to celebrate later in the summer then how about growing some of the flowers by yourself! Bride’s minimalist and comfortable dress is perfect for summer weddings and the simple hairstyle gets a summer breeze with golden flower hairpins.

The overall style is relaxed and warm!

How to make your wedding and marriage more equal

How to make your wedding and marriage more equal

Weddings and relationships have so much in common. Sometimes you can see signs in the wedding planning process of how your mutual living is going to turn out. The planning time is a great change to map out some markers for your rest of the life and learn shared decision making. It’s all about compromises and equality, honey! For the Day of Equality in Finland I thought that it’s a great time to explore how you can bring more equality to your wedding planning and married life. Let’s go!

So what is equality in wedding and marriage?

When we think about marriage and equality probably the first thing that comes to mind is the long, long fight for legalizing marriage for all couples. In Finland we’ve had equal marriage right for four years now.

But there are other things that play to the equality of a marriage. Don’t get me wrong, the very least we can do is to let willing adults marry each others. That is the base. Don’t even get me started about how important is is that the law treats and validates couples and loving people just the same.

But today I want to draw some attention to the marriage itself. Let’s say that everyone can marry who ever they want. Yay! But does that make marriage equal? Unfortunately not.

So how can you be the modern couple you want to be and make your wedding and marriage more equal? Keep reading!

1. Equality and respect are the foundation of your relationship – and the wedding!

Healthy relationship is built upon equality and honoring each other’s views and personality. This is also true when it comes to planning a wedding. You should be able to communicate your wants about your wedding day and tell each other what is most important aspect about the wedding for you.

Sometimes it might take some compromising but that’s what relationship are about. After all, you’ll most likely have big and important decisions in your future as a married couple so it pays of to practice like that.

We’ve heard about couples that are about to pull off the wedding because they fight about it too much. I know that things can get heated and there are lots of emotions involved but I say it’s better to tackle these issues now. Take your time, listen to each others and maybe ask some help. If you love each others then you will be able to overcome these obstacles.

2. Wedding traditions: take only those that feel good to you

You don’t have to do the things that seem too old fashioned or unequal. But if you want your father to escort you to the aisle then do it! Instead go father ’giving his daughter to groom’ you can think that your father or other loved one is standing by your side at the start of new phase in your life.

Customs and their meanings change and reform as times goes by. We don’t think it’s wrong to let yourself experience some old fashioned romance or customs if you’re so inclined. When your relationship is on equal and healthy footing, those kind of small customs aren’t going to wreck it.

It’s most important to make the wedding day look like you. Go through what you like and what you don’t and also tell your bridal party about your decisions.

    3. Make sure that you both have space in your home and share responsibility

Sharing responsibilities and acknowledging the work your loved one does is part of equality when it comes to relationships and marriage. Now, in my mind it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to half every laundry stack or lawn moving, but try to make sure both of you know what the other is bringing into table and make sure the other gets enough help and time for themselves too.

The same goes with wedding planning: it’s not fair to put one person in charge of the whole planning. It’s okay if one has the vision and the other one doesn’t have too much to say about it. But make sure that you go through about the plan every now and then. If you are the one who’s not taking part to the visioning make sure you regularly ask your spouse if there is something they need.

    4. Weddings are about the couple, not just the bride

There is this way of thinking that we inherited from the 1950’s that weddings are the bride’s most important day. First, there are going to be so many more important days but secondly, the day is about the couple. Both people getting married are facing a really important day and they should be exited. Maybe they are a bit anxious too. Make sure that both can be as much in the spotlight and receive love and support in the planning.

Nowadays many things that are associated with preparing for the wedding are seen very feminine. Beauty salons, clothes shopping, parties with cupcakes… But these things aren’t gender coded and we are well past gender roles, right? So make it possible for both to get all the pampering they want. After all it is such a nice opportunity to feel that little extra special.

It’s also a lovely idea to include few wedding planning date nights. Maybe do something special together and do through some wedding to do things. Get some date night ideas from Christmas Bucket List for Engaged and Newlyweds and Last minute Valentine’s’ Day Date Ideas.

    5. Make sure you both have enough space in the relationship

For many this is no brainer but I felt this is important to say aloud. The home should reflect everyone who lives in there and everyone should have some space for themselves.

Sometimes it happens that the home is mainly in the hands of one person when it comes to decorating and taking care of it. In the long run it can stir up sour feelings either about not having help or not having space and chance to make decisions about home. That is why equality is important also when it comes to physical home.

When it comes to the wedding, I’ve said it before that you should make sure that both persons get heard in the planning and that both can incorporate their important aspects to the big day. Split funds for the outfits fairly, maybe get your both’s favorite desserts!

    Pin it for later!

At nordic and scandinavian culture the equality in every sense of the word is a big deal. It’s one of the main component also in Hygge lifestyle and at hygge wedding! For us personally equality and marriage equality has been one of the greatest things in life. All in all, we are big believers of love and equality and we want to serve and work for every and all couples out there planning their wedding and marriage!

I bet you have heard the saying “something blue” thousand times when it comes to weddings. People might be asking if You have found your blue detail already or if you need help with including it to your style.

We have a little secret with the blue.

Every time we finish a bridal gown we add a small blue detail to the dress. For a full hand embroidered gown we embroidered a small cornflower. Right now our thing is a small blue silk ribbon under the hem. We think that this kind of little things add a nice personal touch and also take away the pressure to find something blue.

Because let’s be honest. Most of the brides like this kind of traditions but might struggle to incorporate them to their style.

But what if you go for whole blue wedding theme?

Blue and gold wedding theme is fresh and soothing

Sometimes the wedding cake can spark the inspiration for the whole wedding look and that is exactly what happened with this blue and gold four tier cake. Metallics are super trendy right now and the deep blue keeps the cake classy. The gold shades go perfectly together with the delicate gold linings on the glasses as well as with the gold colored tableware.

The delicate feel is carried to the stationary with flowy calligraphy and blue silk ribbons. Add lots of white flowers with greenery and you have a perfect palette for early spring weddings.

For the bridal looks we adore a pale blue flowy gown as well as a white beaded slip dress. A lovely little detail is a blue and white bridal garter with small silk flowers.

The calligraphy style is carried to the other stationary with  minimalist color block design. Natural craft paper with burn orange ivory create warm and welcoming color palette. What to wear when getting ready in the wedding morning

What to wear when getting ready in the wedding morning

I’m the first to admit that I didn’t think about my wedding morning outfit when I got married. I most likely just threw something clean on before tackling the last decorating and food prepping (it was DIY wedding in every sense). BUT what you wear during the wedding morning is very much practical thing to think through before hand as I have come to learn later during my career.

Plan your whole wedding outfit with this free easy to use planner!

18 pages going through your whole bridal look from hair to shoes, not to forget your wedding dress.

Wedding morning outfit – or more like half a day outfit

Depending on your wedding day timetable, you might get into your wedding dress much later during the day. Like well beyond midday. There is often plenty of action and things to do during the morning. The busiest brides might even do last ceremony site or reception site decorating, before rushing to hairdresser or to make up. You also need to eat something during the day and possibly drive and meet people so you just cannot be naked or in your underwear all morning even if you would like to.

In this blog post I give you the main points when it comes to picking the getting ready outfit and explaining why they are so important. In the end you can find a collage of clothing pieces I would most likely pick for myself in case I got another go for my wedding morning.

What should your wedding morning outfit be like?

    1. Easy to put on and take off

This is number one thing in my mind, as you should get your hair and makeup done before going anywhere near the wedding dress. To keep the hairdo and eyeshadow intact, I would advise to not wear anything that needs to be taken off over the head.

Put on something that you can zip, button up or tie around your upper body to avoid messing your face or hair. This also makes it easier to layer up or down depending of the climate. For some there might be plenty of driving around to hairdresser,  hotel or the ceremony site so you might need to adjust your layer to some places.

    2. Comfort comes first

Many wedding dresses are not designed comfort in mind. Wedding day is often long and wedding dresses can be sweaty, tight, unbending, heavy or even scratchy. (Bonus tip: when it comes to embroidery, avoid dresses that have beading right underneath your armpits.)

That’s why it’s so important to be as comfortable as you can and the wedding morning is a perfect time to give yourself a break and wear something soft and loose. This way you feel good and can handle the possible annoyments of the wedding dress way better rest of the day.

    3. Avoid clothes that leave marks on your body – loose garments are your friends

This is a great tip especially if your wedding dress is very open. Many clothes we wear tend to leave marks after they have been on for some time. Bras are particularly bothersome in this sense. Depending on the cut of your dress and your own body, the marks can still be visible when it’s time to walk to the ceremony. If you’re getting your photographs taken before the ceremony, this is even more important.

Loose fitting clothes that have as few drawstrings, buttons or tight parts as possible are best bet for the wedding morning outfit. If you have more modest and closed wedding dress, this is not so important when it comes to visibility, but more when it comes to feeling good.

     4. Wear something that will look nice in the pictures

The last thing I want to talk about is of course how you prefer to look like in the photos of your wedding morning. For many this might be really important. Most likely there will be pictures of you getting ready so think what you want to look like in the photos.

Feeling pretty starts from the inside, so it’s great to feel pretty and comfortable in the morning before slipping into your dream dress. It makes the whole day a bit more special too. Wear something you feel nice and good and what feels like you. If you’re planning to buy something new, kill two birds with one stone and pick clothes you can pack with you to the honeymoon! It’s luxurious to build a proper bridal trousseau like that, I think. Even if the clothes itself aren’t super expensive couture pieces.

My Perfect Wedding Morning Outfit -plan

This is what I could wear in the wedding morning if I did the whole wedding thing again. (Not that I want to. I’m still stupidly in love with my spouse and wedding was tough work you know.) The pictures are examples I picked to show what kind of clothes would be really good as a getting ready outfit.

    1. Basic loose tank top I can easily slip down and step of is a perfect choice for wedding morning. This top also gives just a little bit of support on boob-region so I can skip the bra altogether. The top in picture is a basic Walmart tank top.

    2. Palazzo pants that are soft, loose and easy going that I could use even outside if needed. Something that would not look totally like pj’s. The white pinstriped ones are by Michael Kors.

    3. Plaid shirt was the first item I picked, as I basically live in one anyway. It’s very me and easy to get on and off. I would like bit longer one so I could almost use it as a tunic if needed. This one is by Black Bison Outfitters.

    6. The morning robe is a classic piece for a wedding morning. If I needed to pick just one thing to wear it would be the robe, as it’s so easy to change into and out off and most of them look beautiful! Robes also look really dreamy in pictures! This is by EzPlaza.

    7. Short pyjama bottoms are super cute and go well with the robe. This pair is by Matches Fashion via Port, but sadly they are out of stock. Shorts are silk with chantilly lace and would be a nice little luxury detail that would work wonderfully well for honeymoon too.
