Scandi Chic in Paris – Hand embroidered bespoke gown

Mar 26, 2019Collections, The Dress0 comments

Scandi chic fashion is often thought to be practical and minimalistic. That is very true, but how does it show in formal fashion and evening gowns? Here is one example of embroidered bespoke gown we at Heili Bridal designed and made for an Instagram influencer Emilia Seppänen for Paris Fashion Week 2018. As a scandinavian fashion and wedding brand we feel well equipped to show this as an example of scandinavian chic -fashion style.

Bespoke Evening Gown Starts With The Customer

When we start to design a bespoke evening gown at Heili Bridal, the personality of the customer comes first. Emilia is a young influencer and model hailing from Finland and currently living in Spain. She ordered an evening gown to wear at Paris Fashion Week events during the fall 2018.

The black color for the dress was Emilia’s wish so that’s where we started. We wanted to keep the form and design pretty simple and, you know, scandi minimalistic to honor Emilia’s nordic roots. To upgrade the dress and to give it some wow-factor, we added generous amount of sequins.

Scandi Chic – Lightness and Simplicity

Even though the order was for an evening gown, Valentin, who was the main designer wanted to keep the dress fairly light and unstructured to give it a relaxed feel. That’s why the dress doesn’t have any boning and the materials are light and draping such as tulle and soft satin. The simplicity allows Emilia to use her dress in various formal or semi-formal occasions and gives more space to hair and make-up styling and accessories. Embroidered Bespoke Gown – Nordic Minimalism With Bling

All of the sequins and beading were hand sewn onto the dress. The colorway is black, silver, turquoise and some iricedent violets, almost like peacock feathers. Applying the bling took several days from Iida, who is the main culprit behind Heili Bridal’s embroidery work. She used two different sizes and three colors of sequins to achieve almost twinkling effect to the dress.

This scandi chic gown was wonderful to design and it felt very ‘us’. I would say it’s one our favorite bespoke evening gowns we have done!
